Membership

The majority of our members are based in Wales and central England, but travel to more distant events including castles at Berkley, Rockingham and Skipton. We welcome prospective members from anywhere.

We also frequently attend large multi-group events and battles like Tewkesbury, Berkley Castle etc. We thoroughly appreciate that members have ‘modern’ lives as well, but ask that the degree of commitment necessary is considered before requesting membership.

For new members, initial financial outlay does not have to be great — some basic clothing and footwear is all that is necessary to start with the Living History — this can be easily self-made, or bought 'off the peg' from traders.  More kit can be bought when you have decided the 'direction' your participation will take — LH or combat etc. Please see our Clothing & Equipment Guide and feel free to phone for advice.

Marcher Freemen are a family friendly group. Our aim is to safely enjoy what we do, and to do it with as thorough authenticity as possible. We therefore need members to adhere to our Health & Safety policies  and adopt appropriate practices correct for the historic periods we portray.

If you would like to know more about Re-enacting and Living History, or would like a discussion about membership, please e-mail or, phone us ........ or come and visit us at an event!
